Jaques of London review.

Last week we were approached by Jaques of London who wanted to kindly send Oaks some of their beautiful wooden toys to play with and obviously me to review!

I am a HUGE fan of wooden toys and Oaks has a lovely collection of them, so when Jaques reached out I absolutely had to say yes. We were sent 2 toys ( both linked above) and let me tell you, they are just beautiful. From the packaging, which was probably some of the nicest product packaging I’ve seen, so much so I almost didn’t want to open it. They were beautifully presented in illustrated boxes wrapped in ribbons. Attention to detail was definitely taken into account. They would be great as gifts as they are!

So as I said, we were sent 2 toys for Oaks, the first box was the lets-play-london-bus. Now anyone who know’s Oaks will know just how much he loves all things vehicles… To say he adores this bus is a massive understatement.

As soon as it came out of the box he was all over it and has been inseparable ever since! Like to the point he wanted to take it to bed with him… It is so well made and super sturdy so there is no fear of it being properly played with, which is an absolute must with Hurricane Oakley! It’s completely open top, with a removable top deck and cute solid wood passenger which Oaks loves.
I absolutely love how bright and bold the colours are on the bus and the little details just pop! I particularly love the details on the little passengers, the fact they’re not just basic, smiley faced figures. They all have little facial expressions and different characters, which as Oaks grows we can explore and talk about. It’s perfect for open ended play and developing a range of skills from exploring and talking aboutemotions, language to counting and colour recognition. This will definitely be a favourite in our home for a long time to come.

The second toy we received was the lets-learn-shapes-matching-board. I’ll be honest, Oaks wasn’t entirely sold on this one, but I did choose it as something for him to grow to love. Again, it was absolutely beautifully packaged.
The board and shape pieces were stunning and super bright! The thing I loved most was the shape halves all had different curves and edges, and not just straight lined and easy to guess like your bog standard shape matching game, so it’s not something Oaks will grow out of too quickly! It’s the perfect toy for Pre school and reception age!
We did sit for a short while and played with it together. Instead of trying to fit them into the board we focused on just matching the colours together, which he enjoyed! but the bus was just too good for him to part with.

As someone with a background of working within Early Years education, it was important to me that the toys were something Oaks could learn through and would help him with his development, but also have fun all at the same time. I can hand on heart say that Jaques did not disappoint. Their selection of games and toys are wonderful and there is truly something for everyone of every age and ability. They are in fact designed by teachers I really cannot recommend that you check out the website enough. We will for sure be make a few purchases towards Oaks 3rd Birthday later in the year.

I have been given a cheeky little discount link for you guy to use, which will save you 15% on any purchase! Perfect if you have a birthday coming up, or just want to treat your little humans!
